Bittersweet Endings

This blog post is so bittersweet as I come to y’all on my last week as a TITAS Presents intern! As this summer winds down and my internship ends I wanted to reflect on the past few months. This internship has been nothing but pure fun and lots of learning experiences.

I’ve gotten a private look into running a non-profit. Those close to me know that it has been a dream to open a non-profit ever since I was little. I feel the extreme need to help others and that’s exactly what non-profits are all about.

If you’ve been following my blogs, then you know that TITAS Presents is a performing arts presenting company in Dallas, TX. They bring the most amazing companies to Dallas each season and help expand the cities knowledge of dance. Their role in the arts district is so important. I say this often but, dance can change lives. TITAS helps people, just like I want to help people in the future.

This isn’t the only thing I’ve learned. I also gotten some firsthand experience with grant writing and all that goes into it. This is an important skill not only to have as someone entering the business industry but as an artist as well. We create, work, and thrive off of grants. Knowing the best ways to write and obtain them is of the upmost importance for my future careers.

During my time, I also attended meetings regarding the city and their plans to build up and improve arts and culture in Dallas. I think this was one of my favorite parts. Dallas has one of the strongest arts districts I’ve seen in the country, but it could always use improvements. I hope to one day help make decisions that help develop a city as a whole.

And of course the best part, the shows! So, not only did I meet some incredible people, learn more about the industry I want to enter and gain skills to help me in whatever career I go into, I also got to watch some pretty spectacular dancing along the way. I would call that a win on all levels!

Even though this ending is more bitter than sweet because I will miss it so much, I’m ready to take the skills I learned and apply them in the future. Thank you TITAS for equipping me with knowledge to take me to the next level!

And don’t worry, this isn’t the last you’ve seen of TITAS and Joi. Stay tuned at the beginning of 2019 to hear more about it!

With love,

Joi
